Analysis That Holds Up.

The following cases are anonymised to protect client confidentiality. They illustrate the range of investigations SVT Collisions undertakes and the methodology applied.

Case 01

Multi-vehicle lorry motorway collision

Background

A four lorry collision on a motorway resulting in a fatality. Michael was instructed to reconstruct the collision and establish the speed of each vehicle at the point of impact.

Methodology

Scene survey, vehicle damage analysis, CCTV review, and speed calculations from physical evidence utilising the tachograph data.

Outcome

Michael's analysis established that the rear most lorry had the first impact without braking. The speed of impact was calculated and shown to be within the speed limit. The report was accepted by the Coroner.

Case 02

Pedestrian fatality

Background

A pedestrian was fatally injured on an urban road. The defendants solicitors disputed liability. Michael was instructed by the defendant's legal team to provide an independent assessment.

Methodology

Scene survey, analysis of vehicle damage and pedestrian contact points, review of CCTV footage, and pedestrian movement. An expert collision reconstruction report was produced.

Outcome

Michael's analysis demonstrated that the pedestrian was not visible to the driver until immediately prior to the collision and the driver would have been unable to react. The report was used in civil proceedings and contributed to a successful outcome for the defendant.

Case 03

Car v motorcycle fatality

Background

A right turning car collided with a motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction.

Methodology

Physical vehicle inspection, damage analysis, CCTV speed analysis and vehicle repositioning from the CCTV.

Outcome

Michael calculated the speed of the vehicles from CCTV. The motorcycle was travelling in excess of the speed limit. The car was travelling within the speed limit. Combined with the repositioning of the vehicles, Michael's report showed the car driver could not have seem the motorcyclist when they commenced the turn and if the motorcyclist was travelling at the speed limit, the collision would not have occurred.
